This church opens wide the door and says,
"In the name of the Lord Jesus, welcome!"
First Presbyterian Church, Wetumpka was founded in January 1836. Our present sanctuary has been a safe haven for all and a spiritual house of worship since 1856. We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in the USA (PCUSA). God has done amazing things in this place. God continues to do so.

Note from the Pastor:
There has been a First Presbyterian Church in Wetumpka since 1836. Members have worshipped in the same sanctuary since 1856. The corner of West Bridge and North Bridge has offered Christian witness to this community for generations. Almost every photograph or painting of Wetumpka includes the church as a most recognized landmark.
History has been made at First Presbyterian, and the walls of the East wing are adorned with some of our oldest memorabilia. Historic records of times long past reflect a spirit consistent with what members and visitors find here today: genuine warmth, generosity, and care for others. History continues to be made as this church navigates the uncertain seas of the 21st century.
In a recent book chronicling messages from church signs, a local author became captivated by the worn sign out front, which reads, "Sanctuary open; come in to pray." When the realization that the sanctuary is always open set in, this author identified our worn sign as his favorite in his collection. Our sanctuary is not the finest or the most plain in the community. It is not the largest or the smallest. It is always open.
First Presbyterian Church spiritually is much like it is physically. We are not the grandest congregation, nor are we the most simple. We are not the largest, nor are we the smallest. We are always open to God's movement by the power of the Holy Spirit. Anyone weary and in need of rest is welcome. All who are lonely and want friendship are invited to find it here. To all who sin and need a Savior, the church opens wide the door and says, "In the name of the Lord Jesus, welcome!"
Called to be a part of the community of faith, the First Presbyterian Church, Wetumpka acknowledges that the work of the church is a response to God's grace, and is done in obedience to the will of God, as this will is made known in scripture.
As part of Christ's Church in this community, we commit ourselves to the proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ.
Relying on the power of the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves: to give praise to God through corporate worship; to share the responsibility of loving and caring for one another; to teach and to study God's word; to be a community that inspires and equips people to work within and beyond the local church; to love God and neighbor; to encourage and empower each member to be a responsible steward; and to provide leadership and organization that will expedite God's work in this community through this congregation.
All these things are done in order to fulfill the chief and highest end of humankind, which is to glorify God and to fully enjoy Him forever.
